Lydia E. Hsu is a partner at Foster Hsu, LLP and a Certified Family Law Specialist, as certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a distinction reserved for a select group of the most experienced and respected family law attorneys in the country and a Certified Mediator. Lydia represents clients throughout San Jose, Santa Clara County, San Mateo County and conducts mediation throughout the State of California.
Lydia has experience in all aspects of family law, including child custody and visitation; child and spousal support; property identification, characterization, valuation, and division; reimbursement claims; prenuptial and postnuptial agreements; and domestic violence matters. She also handles guardianships and step-parent adoptions. Lydia is particularly skilled in complex and high-net-worth matters, including the characterization and division of business interests, real property, retirement, and equity compensation, and serves a broad range of clients, including attorneys, physicians, business owners, executives, parents, and grandparents.
She is passionate about providing counsel that is both empathetic and pragmatic, and about ensuring that her clients fully understand the options available to them. Lydia works closely with each client to achieve the best possible result for them and their family, whether through mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution or through litigation.
Lydia has worked in family law since 2009. She previously worked with two non-profit organizations assisting domestic violence survivors and clerked with the Supervising Family Law Judge in Santa Clara County. In addition to representing her clients, Lydia serves as a volunteer settlement officer for the Family Court in Santa Clara County.
Lydia is also active in the leadership of the AAML Northern California Chapter, where she serves as Chair of the Membership Committee (2026) and as Co-Chair of the Chapter’s 50th Anniversary Symposium (2027).
